Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School

Science Department

We believe that schools should provide all students with practical and meaningful experiences that will enable them to become scientifically literate citizens of the 21st century. We offer courses for students who have a career identified and for those who have high interest in science. All of the courses in the science curriculum contain the most current and pertinent content and concepts in science. A laboratory component, which increases interest in the course and provides for a hands-on experience and practical skill in the content area, is included in each science course.

Our teachers remain on the “cutting edge” with respect to the use of computer hardware and software in their instructional practices. Formal testing is supplemented, and in some cases replaced by, alternative assessment methods such as electronic portfolio production, media presentation, and cooperative learning projects. Evaluation is a reflective and diagnostic part of the learning process that is designed to promote knowledge retention rather than rote memorization.
